Some of our more prestigious projects include the restoration
of a paneled room in the Longue Vue Farm Estate built in
1925 and owned by the legendary actress Gloria Swanson.
This grand room of quarter sawn white oak panels was
damaged by a burst steam pipe. All veneers were meticulously
relayed or replaced, finished, and restored to its former glory.
Oxford has also collaborated with the NYC School
Construction Authority to completely restore the paneled library
in the Bayard Education Complex in Chelsea. The school
was formally known as the Straubenmiller Textile High
School and was constructed in the 1930's. The 5,000 square
foot, quarter sawn oak paneled library was part of the Great
Depression's WPA Federal Arts Project. Using a technique of
finish conservation and restoration, our company was able to
preserve the original patina and finish of these panels. This
project is an example of Oxford's ability to restore larger scale
and institutional projects.
During one of our more challenging and interesting restoration
projects, Oxford set up shop aboard a 1958 Trumpy Motor
Yacht built by John Trumpy and Sons in Annapolis, Maryland
for John Trumpy himself. Our talented artisans remediated
sunlight damage to the walnut paneled salon and restored the
finish to its original beauty. They also rebuilt elements to the
mahogany wheelhouse and finished them to match the existing
patina of the original woodwork.
Whether aboard a world class yacht, in a beautifully adorned
period paneled room, an elevator cab, or a fine library, Oxford
Restoration is your premier resource for restoring and
repurposing fine and important architectural and decorative
works of craftsmanship from a bygone era.
